OVERVIEW

On May 6th, Dr. Chris Perry facilitated another training session during which he shared invaluable insights into the essential technologies required for conducting research in mitochondrial bioenergetics. Dr. Perry showcased his methodologies, analytical techniques, and fostered meaningful discussions within the realm of muscle metabolism.

Chris Perry’s current research delves into understanding the intricate regulation of skeletal muscle metabolism. His work investigates how disruptions in normal metabolic processes contribute to diseases characterized by muscle weakness and diminished exercise capacity. With a primary goal of developing innovative therapeutic strategies, Dr. Perry aims to enhance and restore normal metabolic control, thereby improving muscle fitness in conditions such as Duchenne muscular dystrophy, cancer-related muscle weakness, and chemotherapy-induced muscle issues.

Dr. Christopher Perry

Associate Professor, Faculty of Health School of Kinesiology & Health Science, York University

Dr. Perry values a collaborative environment, hosting visiting trainees and sharing methodologies internationally to advance research in mitochondrial bioenergetics and human muscle biopsies. Collaborations with international pharmaceutical partners facilitate the development of therapies aimed at enhancing muscle fitness, while exploration of modified exercise therapy regimens within specific disorders offers additional avenues for intervention.
