Designing Mitochondria for the Future—Summer Program

“Redesigning the future of medicine: Integrating Biology, Engineering, AI, and Social Sciences to develop mitochondrial therapy”

The Designing Mitochondria for the Future Summer Program is catered for senior high school students (Grade 11-12) who are curious about research, innovation, and the future of medicine. Through hands-on activities, interactive lectures, immersive tours, and presentation of real-world applications, the students will learn that breakthroughs in medicine do not happen in isolation but through collaborative work between scientists, engineers, clinicians, and innovators. Sessions will be led by researchers, graduate students, practitioners, and undergraduate mentors.

This free 2-day summer program will take place on July 13th and 14th, 2026 between 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This program will be delivered in-person at the University of Toronto- St. George Campus, Medical Science Building, Room 4227. Upon completion, students will receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing their participation in a university-led research and innovation program, which can be included in post-secondary applications, resumes, and scholarship portfolios.

We encourage students to submit their application as soon as possible. Applications will open April 13, 2026 and close May 18, 2026. Applicants selected to proceed to the interview stage will be contacted starting May 25, 2026*.
